Membership Benefits

NYIA's primary functions are to keep members apprised of New York regulatory and legislative developments which may affect them and to lobby the Legislature and the Insurance Department on issues of importance to our members. In addition, NYIA hosts a variety of seminars on emerging topics of interest.

Publications

  • Albany Update: Memo reporting on all industry-related activity. Includes wrap up of previous week's legislative activity, bills of interest on upcoming committee agendas, etc.  Sent by fax to all members each Friday night during legislative session, and available in the Members Only section of the website. Past Albany Updates can be found in Publications.
  • Legislative Introductions: Memo listing all bills of interest introduced during the legislative session. Includes bill number, sponsor, companion bill, brief description of bill text, and recommended Association position. Mailed to all members bi-weekly during legislative session, and available in the Members Only section of the website. Past Legislative Introductions can be found in Publications.
  • Enacted Law Bulletin: Memo listing all bills signed into law by Governor. Includes bill number, description and Chapter Law number.  Periodically mailed to all members during legislative bill signing period, and available in the Members Only section of the website. Past Enacted Law Bulletins can be found in Publications.
  • Proposed Rule Making Activity: Summary of Insurance Department's proposed regulatory activity.  Mailed to all members as released, and available in the Members Only section of the website under Regulatory Activity. Past Regulatory Activity can be found in Publications.
  • Priority Bill Status Update: Chart listing all Association priority bills. Includes bill number, companion, brief description, current legislative committee, and Association position. Sent to all members periodically during the legislative session.
  • NYIA NEWS: Newsletter published quarterly and distributed to members.   Includes informational and substantive articles relating to the insurance industry, announcements from member companies, previous and upcoming NYIA events.
  • Memos in Opposition/Support: Association memo stating position regarding various legislation.  Mailed and/or hand delivered to legislators, staff, state agencies, and lobbyists as required. Memos are available upon request.
  • Bill Text & Bill Memos: Actual legislative bill text and sponsors' memos.  Mailed or faxed to members upon request.
  • State Insurance Department Circular Letters: Copies of Insurance Department interpretations of laws and regulations.  Mailed to all members upon request.

Seminars

Each year NYIA offers a variety of seminars which are approved by the New York State Insurance Department for continuing education credits. These seminars are offered to members at a reduced registration rate. NYIA also offers informational seminars on various emerging topics of interest.

This Members Only section of the website allows members convenient access to important member information, as well as the latest NYIA publications. Included in the Members Only section are:

Annual Conference

Each year the New York Insurance Association holds a conference designed to provide members with an appropriate mix of business and pleasure. The conference provides a perfect opportunity for members to meet colleagues, discuss common issues of concern, and benefit from the expertise of speakers. Recent conferences have included presentations and CEO panel discussions on such topics as mold, privacy, credit scoring, terrorism, challenges for the p/c industry, federal updates, sidewalk liability, auto roundtables, and speed to market initiatives.
